irThe rural mountains of Western North Carolina are known for some of the best made-from-scratch food in the country. Fresh-baked bread is just one of the categories that will make your mouth water. Have you ever wanted to learn how to make delicious, hot sourdough bread from scratch in your own kitchen? Well, here’s your chance!
This January, Cowee School and Strange Trip Pizza are partnering up to offer an expert-led sourdough class series for beginners. The class series will take place every Saturday, January 6 – January 27, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Attendees will learn how to start and maintain their sourdough starter, use your sourdough discard in recipes, make focaccia, and make their own sourdough bread loaf. In addition to the expert instruction, this limited space class includes a weck jar, spatula, and various recipes.
Cowee School
Cowee School (the venue) is an arts and heritage center in Macon County. Many of the school’s programs focus on preserving the crafts and culture of the Southern Appalachians and the Cherokee people. They offer various events throughout the year to achieve this mission including festivals, concerts, and other classes.
Strange Trip Pizza
Strange Trip Pizza (the instructor) is a small, family-run, sourdough wood-fired pizza trailer operating out of Franklin, NC. Their style of pizza is a form of Neo-Neapolitan, which is similar to Neapolitan styles but with a crispier texture. They cook their pizzas in a 100% wood-burning oven and made with the same homemade all-sourdough crust that you’ll learn how to create during the class series. It’s made from non-GMO, organic, NC-milled flour from Lindley Mills.
