Last year, leaders in the town of Franklin approved the layout for a skate park and earlier this year, construction officially broke ground on the new site. Back in 2021, a local 14-year-old stood up in front of the City Council and presented his idea of a skate park where skateboarders could practice in a safe environment. While the Greenway is beautiful, part of it is gravel, and local skateboarders also didn’t want to disrupt anyone by skating on the sidewalks or other public areas downtown.
Once the City Council selected a plot of land near downtown, at the corner of Highlands Road and Main Street, they hired a firm to design the new structure. Local skateboarders presented their ideas, and the firm used these to render the final design plans for the new skate park. Sk828, a local organization that was created “to help organize the efforts of Franklin citizens to have a skate park developed in Franklin”, has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Members on their Facebook group are currently commenting on their excitement about the final phases of the project.
Franklin has always been and will always be a family-friendly town with small-town vibes and big-town fun! Sanctuary Village (located in downtown Franklin) is just a short drive or walk from the new skate park, which will soon be open to the public.
