The Macon County Gemboree in Franklin, NC

Gemboree

For centuries, Western North Carolina has been a mecca for gem lovers. These mountains are rich with rubies, sapphires, and other precious gems! This is truly the perfect location for folks to gather each year for the Macon County Gemboree!

This famous gem show just celebrated its 56th year this past weekend, and there’s no sign of it slowing down in years to come. Not only did the show feature countless long-time vendors, but it also attracted a handful of new vendors this year.

The show offered a vast selection of rough and cut gems and minerals, fine jewelry, lapidary equipment, and fossils. Visitors were treated to demonstrations of gem cutting and faceting stones by experts in the field. Additionally, if that wasn’t enough of a draw, door prizes were given away every hour.

For many decades, the Macon County Gemboree has been a collaboration between the Franklin Chamber of Commerce and the Gem & Mineral Society of Franklin. When both of these prominent organizations team up, they produce one fantastic event!

This year, the Gemboree was held at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building, which is less than a 10-minute drive from the peace and serenity of Sanctuary Village, in downtown Franklin.
