Taste of Scotland & Celtic Festival in Franklin, NC

Franklin's Taste of Scotland Festival in June

While it may surprise many, the town of Franklin, NC is rich in Scottish history. Before the United States became a nation, Scottish immigrants crossed the Atlantic and settled in the Great Smoky Mountains. The beauty of Western North Carolina is said to remind Scottish immigrants of the rolling hills and mountains of their homeland. Currently, more than 1,500 families of Scottish descent reside in Macon County.

Each June, the Taste of Scotland & Celtic Festival celebrates Franklin’s deep Scottish heritage and offers fun for the whole family. During this 3-day festival, visitors can sample authentic Scottish foods, see demonstrations of Highland Games, and shop for authentic Scottish apparel and goods. Of course, there’s plenty of great Scottish and Celtic music.

As part of the festivities, a parade celebrating Scottish Heritage will take place on Main Street in Downtown Franklin. The parade continues down and around to Stewart Street. Here’s where you’ll find the food! Gracious Plates on Main will be serving Bangers and Mash. The Rathskeller will be serving Scottish beer. And all the live music will add to the festive fun. As always, the Scottish Tartan Museum on Main Street will showcase Scottish history and Franklin’s Scottish roots through photos, artifacts, and stories. On Saturday, June 17, the festivities will occur at the Macon County Fairgrounds, where visitors can cheer on the Highland Games!

The Taste of Scotland & Celtic Festival is merely one of the many exciting events in downtown Franklin, just a stone’s throw from Sanctuary Village. To learn more about your dream home, email us today at ContactUs@SanctuaryVillage.com
